105,000 hour engine
This engine, along with it’s twin, spent it’s life working hard in a push boat, operating on the Mississippi river. Built in 2008, the QSK50 T2 1600 hp engines were responsible for pushing around 400 barges a year. With no overhaul, each engine has burned over 2 million gallons of fuel, yet they were still running with only minimal loss of power against the nominal data sheets.
Without a mid-life, top-end or bottom-end overhaul, these engines have beaten all industry standards, which typically call for one every 20k-25k hours. At 60k hours a repower was discussed but, as the engines were still performing at optimal levels, they kept them firing to over 100k! The customer, ensuring they were well looked after, serviced the engines every 1k hours and used cleaner oil.
