Cummins Celebrates International Women’s Day with Local Students

The global manufacturer welcomed students from Carmel College, Darlington College, and Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College to visit its Darlington site. They received an inspirational welcome speech from the Cllr Jan Cossins, Mayor of Darlington and participated in career talks with Cummins staff and senior leadership. Site tours and STEM activities were also hosted in alignment with the theme of ‘Inspire Inclusion’.

Jessica Highfield, Cummins Communications Coordinator and Chair of the Women’s Empowerment Network at Cummins Darlington, said: “International Women’s Day is an important moment to call for positive change in advancing women and educating younger generations. It’s fantastic to welcome so many ambitious students to our facility, showing them what we do at Cummins and the different careers available in STEM subjects. As a large manufacturer and business in the region, it’s vital we showcase Cummins as leader and as an inclusive employer.”

Cllr Jan Cossins, Mayor of Darlington, said: “As we celebrate International Women's Day, we recognise the strength, resilience, and achievements of women worldwide. Together, we continue to break barriers and pave the way for a more inclusive and equitable future.”

This celebration for International Women’s Day comes as part of Cummins’ wider Cummins Powers Women programme. Cummins Powers Women is a $23m commitment across the global organisation to create large-scale changes in the lives of women and girls globally. Since 2018, Cummins has served more than 27 million women and girls, investing in 253 advocacy initiatives across five regions, resulting in 47 laws and policies supporting gender equality.

Cummins employs over 5,000 people across 16 locations in the UK, including large manufacturing facilities in Darlington, Daventry, Huddersfield and Cwmbran.
