Cummins delivers more than 25,000 engines to power Otokar’s flagship bus model

Global power leader Cummins Inc. (NYSE: CMI) is celebrating the delivery of more than 25,000 engines from its Darlington Engine Plant to Otokar, Türkiye’s leading bus manufacturer.

Since 2006, Cummins power has been a mainstay in Otokar’s Sultan and Navigo models with more than 25,000 B4.5 engines supplied to date from its UK engine plant in Darlington. Launched in 2002, Otokar’s flagship Sultan bus began its export journey under the ‘Navigo’ name a year later. As Türkiye’s best-selling midi-bus for more than 15 years, the Sultan / Navigo is a key part of public transportation networks throughout Europe and beyond, transporting millions of passengers across more than 40 countries.

Otokar’s Sultan / Navigo buses have featured Cummins’ B4.5 engines since Euro IV came into force throughout Europe. Volumes ramped up in 2010 after Türkiye moved to Euro IV.

The Sultan / Navigo platform has a wide range of duty cycles from shuttle buses to inter-urban, tourism and school bus services with the B4.5 delivering up to 157 kW / 210 hp and 850 Nm / 626 lb-ft torque. The engine’s compact space claim and low weight deliver high power density across all duty cycles, with a Cummins VGT variable geometry turbocharger for enhanced driveability from higher torque at low engine speeds.

High performance with low fuel consumption and lower emissions is thanks to Cummins’ HPCR high pressure common rail fuel system and DPF / SCR aftertreatment system for Euro VI. HVO and B20 biodiesel compatibility further supports well-to-wheels emissions reductions.

Kerem Erman, Head of Otokar Commercial Vehicles, said:
“We have a long-term relationship with Cummins relying on trust and cooperation. Otokar is the most preferred brand in the medium bus segment in Türkiye. Navigo has also become a top choice in European countries. Today, Navigo buses transport millions of passengers daily in more than 40 countries. As we broaden our Navigo bus park especially in Europe, Cummins has been a reliable partner by means of empowering our vehicles’ efficiency and reducing emissions. We look forward to continuing this partnership into the future.”

Cenk Yavuz, Director of Europe Bus Business at Cummins, shared:
“We are delighted to have surpassed the key milestone of 25,000 B4.5 engines delivered to Otokar. Seeing Otokar’s flagship bus model powered by Cummins transporting people to work, school and leisure activities is testament to the hard work and dedication of the Otokar and Cummins teams. We look forward to continuing our longstanding relationship with Otokar and supplying even more engines from Darlington Engine Plant.”

Cummins has been a key engine partner to Otokar for around 20 years and nearly 95 percent of Otokar branded buses produced at its Sakarya manufacturing facility in Türkiye feature Cummins Euro VI F2.8, B4.5, B6.7 low-emission diesel or L9N natural gas engines.
