With the global fight against climate change and vision to improve energy security, India is continuously increasing its focus on reducing GHG emissions. Commercial vehicle community is leaving no stone unturned to lead this transition as Transport sector is the biggest consumer of crude oil.

To showcase its technology leadership in introducing a broad portfolio of solutions beyond diesel, Cummins India sponsored the 6th edition of Commercial Vehicle Forum (CVF) – 2022. As part of the sponsorship, Cummins India participated in panel discussions, dedicated presentations and an AV showcasing our path to zero emissions.

Anjali Pandey, Vice President, Engine Business and Components Business, Cummins India, participated in the CXO panel discussion titled “Trends and Developments in CV and Road Transport industry”. The session included insights on topics like E-commerce boom, Alternate Powertrains, Scrappage policy and Skill-set transformation in CV industry.  During the discussion on future of alternate powertrains, Anjali highlighted that “While diesel has been the dominant fuel source due to its versatility and ease of availability, Hydrogen engines have the potential to become a major milestone on the journey towards a zero-carbon economy because they employ technology that is available today.

As a guest speaker, Shailesh Zinge, Marketing and Growth Initiatives Leader, Engine Business and Components Business Cummins India presented on the topic “Destination Zero - Path to Decarbonized Future”.  Shailesh’s presentation highlighted the importance of decarbonizing transport sector, ways to achieve it and the role that Cummins is playing in the same.

He also participated in a panel discussion titled “Alternate Fuels” alongside other industry experts.

“Destination Zero is Cummins’ strategy to get to zero-emissions. The credible path to same starts with “Advancing” current solutions with reductions in NOx and CO2, bridge through the phase that involves many solutions competing segment by segment, till zero-carbon technologies of Battery electric & Fuel Cell electric become technologically & financially viable. Parallelly, we also need to focus on gradually decarbonizing the grid to bring in overall Well to Wheel impact.

We have introduced Industry’s first fuel agnostic ICE platforms that will share a common architecture and will be optimized for different low carbon fuel types. On the other hand, we are investing in technologies across the spectrum to make Destination Zero a reality”, highlighted Shailesh in his session as well as the panel discussion.

Vinod Ajankar (Business Development Head, Jacob Vehicle Systems) was another guest speaker from Cummins, India who gave a session on the future of Commercial vehicle engine braking technology and its importance to maintain efficiency and safety of the vehicle.

Overall, the event offered a good platform to stakeholders of CV community to come together as collaborators instead of competitors.

The discussions led to a lot of excitement among the stakeholders that was visible from audience’s energy.
